Plagiarism and AI Use Policy

Archives of the History and Philosophy of Medicine is committed to maintaining high standards of academic integrity. All submitted manuscripts must be original and must not contain plagiarism, fabricated or falsified information, duplicate publication, or inappropriate reuse of previously published material. Authors are required to properly acknowledge and cite all sources, ideas, quotations, data, images, and other material derived from the work of others. Manuscripts may be screened for plagiarism or substantial text overlap during the editorial process. Where plagiarism or other forms of academic misconduct are identified, the journal may reject the manuscript or take appropriate corrective action in accordance with accepted publication ethics.

Authors may use artificial intelligence (AI) or AI-assisted tools for limited and responsible purposes such as language improvement, grammar correction, translation, or formatting assistance. However, AI tools must not replace the author’s scholarly judgment, research, analysis, or responsibility for the submitted work. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, citations, and conclusions presented in their manuscripts.

Any substantive use of generative AI in the preparation of a manuscript should be transparently disclosed to the editorial office and, where appropriate, in the manuscript itself. AI tools must not be listed as authors or credited with authorship. Authors should carefully verify all AI-assisted content, particularly references, quotations, historical facts, and interpretations, since AI systems may generate inaccurate or fabricated information.

The use of AI to create or manipulate data, research findings, citations, images, or other scholarly material in a misleading manner is not permitted. Authors are responsible for ensuring that their submissions comply with applicable copyright, confidentiality, privacy, and research-ethics requirements. The journal reserves the right to investigate concerns regarding plagiarism, inappropriate AI use, or other forms of academic misconduct and to take appropriate editorial action when necessary.
