Peer Review Policy

Archives of the History and Philosophy of Medicine applies a scholarly peer-review process to maintain the quality, originality, and academic integrity of the articles it publishes. All submissions are initially evaluated by the editorial team to determine whether they are suitable for the journal’s scope and meet the required academic and ethical standards. Manuscripts that are unsuitable for the journal or do not meet basic requirements may be declined at this stage.

Manuscripts considered suitable for further consideration are normally evaluated by independent reviewers with appropriate expertise in the subject area. Reviewers assess the originality and significance of the work, the quality of its arguments or research methodology, the accuracy and adequacy of sources, clarity of presentation, and overall contribution to the field. Based on the reviews, a manuscript may be accepted, returned for revision, or rejected.

The review process is conducted with appropriate confidentiality and impartiality. Reviewers are expected to provide objective and constructive assessments and to declare any conflict of interest that could affect their judgment. Authors are expected to consider reviewer recommendations carefully and provide appropriate revisions or responses when requested.

The final decision on publication is made by the editorial team after consideration of the reviewers’ reports and the overall quality and relevance of the manuscript. A positive reviewer recommendation does not automatically guarantee publication, and the editors reserve the right to request further revisions or decline a manuscript where necessary.:::
